Looking for an unusual program? A speaker who is interesting, informative and delightfully entertaining? Hatsy Taylor fits the bill with her unique "Singing Lectures."
Sound botanical and musical training and actual
stage experience account for the technical perfection
of Hatsy's performances, but what brings her subjects
vividly alive is Hatsy herself. When this diminutive
lady steps forward with her guitar, audiences may
wonder what it's all about, for she is anything but a
typical lady lecturer. As she launches into her
discourse at the end of her opening song, unaffected,
fired by her own enthusiasm, obviously knowledgeable
in her field, she turns her subjects into truly charming
presentations.
WILDFLOWERS FACTS AND FOLKSONGS is Hatsy's most-
often-performed lecture. In it she takes her audience
on an imaginary walk through the woods describing the
delicate flowers of Nature's Garden, their habits and
habitats. Interspersed with history and horticulture are
a variety of ballads, some funny, some sad, some serious,
sung to guitar accompaniment. All of the melodies and
many of the lyrics are of her own composition.
A MEDLEY OF VEGETABLES AND VERSE, written in response to the growing popularity of home-grown produce, is an amusing yet most instructive program on how to raise a backyard full of delicious edibles. The tone of this lecture once again captures the flavor of Hatsy's subject - the new tunes and lyrics hearty and amusing, the problem-solving suggestions practical but refreshingly different. This talk is a bushel basket of fun gleaned through more than twenty years of experience in vegetable gardening.
"Hatsy's light-hearted yet reverent approach to wildflowers, her charming songs and anecdates, are a reflection of her enchanting personality. One of the most outstanding programs our club has had in years."
